We are making headway in our campaign for delegate patronage of a Bill to assist those convicted of felony Robbery, by assigning individual section codes to the newly defined Classes of felony robbery being 3, 5, and 6; BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Remember, a great many voices can enact great change and Delegate offices track and record subject matter of received phone calls from their constituents. Help us by telephoning the delegates and expressing your support. Start at the top of the list, and go as far down as you are able, or are willing. To contact the first 2-3 delegates should only take about 5-10 minutes out of your day and can truly help tip the scales!
We have provided a sample phone script for you below for use, should you wish to use it.
For other ways to help, please sign our PETITION and share/advocate for signatures. Our petition is steadily climbing, the more signatures we can gain the more of an impact the petition will have. Even if your loved one is not serving time for felony robbery, helping us advocate for this amendment is the beginning of further and more progressive criminal justice reform in the State of Virginia. Bill amendments such as this can open additional doors to enacting incredible change for all those serving time.
Please send in the FORM LETTER, because delegates need to hear from you too! Sending in the form letter takes under 5 minutes, as our Advocate VA Team has supplied all of the emails to copy and paste in one go, as well as provided a standardized letter to make advocation of this issue timely and manageable for everyone!
SAMPLE PHONE SCRIPT:
I am calling to express my support of Advocate VA's request for patronage of the Delegate to sponsor, or co-sponsor a bill to amend Code of Virginia § 18.2-58 to assign individual section codes to the newly defined Classes of felony robbery being 3, 5, and 6 as described in their letter dated July 6, 2021. Reclassification of previously unclassified felony robbery convictions awards further opportunity to incarcerated individuals which far surpasses one’s ability to earn sentencing credits, but also opens up further opportunities for acceptance into institutionalized programs, eligibility for work center, acquiring work release or to assist in finding and maintaining gainful employment upon release. We hope that you too see the urgency for continued justice reform in the State of Virginia, and elect to champion this cause by sponsoring this bill amendment.

Advocate VA seeks to bridge the sizeable gap between legislators, legislative policy and those advocating for positive social change, inmate rights and progressive criminal justice reform in the State of Virginia. We are a non-partisan advocacy grassroots movement, which through collaboration with reputable advocacy groups and the private citizenry, seek to bring attention to the continued and longstanding bias of those currently incarcerated, while proactively assisting their peers and extended families petition for urgent criminal justice reform.
Our prime objective is to advocate for an intensive reevaluation of outdated policies and practices and to actively seek, and help others petition, for advance legislation, seeing to the continued and ongoing reform of Virginia's overtly harsh and punitive criminal justice system.
