SIGN OUR PETITION!

Updated: Jul 6, 2021

We encourage everyone to sign and share our petition! Together we can enact great change.

However, please know that it remains of the utmost importance to write to the Delegates, as written correspondence from their constituents carries the most weight. However, a petition can quickly be distributed, shared and signed which also lends credence to voices calling for change in great numbers. Please Sign our petition and share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and any and all other social media forms.

Please continue to write delegates. The Form Letter can be found here, and only takes minutes to edit with the current date, name/address/email and to send in a single email to multiple recipients. For more information on the Form Letter, please click here.

So what is the petition all about?

At the 2020 Special Assembly the Good Time Bill was passed, which excluded all those with felony robbery convictions from being eligible to benefit. This was both devastating to those serving time in Virginia as well as their friends and families waiting for them at home. When Robbery was excluded, it was mainly due to an inability on the behalf of legislators to see past the robbery felony charges which encompassed murder or serious bodily harm. At that time felony robbery convictions, regardless of severity, were all classed together. What most people do not know is that on January 21, 2021 Robbery as classified under code section 18.2-58 (*Code Section excluded from Good Time Bill) was broken down into four individual class felonies ranging from a class 2 felony, being the most severe, to a class 6.

Help us advocate to House Delegates for the amendment of current legislation to afford individual Section Codes as it relates to the newly implemented Class 3, 5, and 6 felony Robbery offenses. This would mean that if brought to the floor and passed, all those will Class 3, 5 and 6 robbery felony convictions would be made eligible under the stipulations of the Good Time Bill (as their new section codes would not be included on the list of exemptions) and would be able to earn credit retroactively towards sentence reduction, as they would no longer be classified under the lengthy list of exclusions. We believe the Good Time Bill should be all inclusive, and this amendment has the ability to clear the way for further amendments and inclusions over time. Help us fight for Justice Reform within the State of Virginia.

Delegates hear a call to action when they receive written communication from constituents. The more who write in, the bigger the impact. Please see our form letter here, complete with easy copy and paste emails already listed for you. Take an extra 5 minutes and make a large impact.
