VADOC Update Re: Recent Corona Cases

According to the Virginia Department of Corrections on their website page dedicated to COVID-19 and published on July 16, 2021, a total number of 20,005 incarcerated individuals have been vaccinated alongside 7,058 staff members. Pulling from their published statistics, VADOC has roughly 13,000 employees, which translates to roughly 54% of employees choosing to be vaccinated at this juncture.

Their website page, which states that their content is updated with new Corona Virus statistics every Friday, indicates that to date VADOC has seen a total of 9,118 Covid-19 positive cases. They have published that they currently have 6 active Inmate cases with 0 currently resulting in hospitalization. Tragically, VADOC has had 56 Inmate deaths in their care resulting from the virus during the length of the pandemic. Currently there are 8 active Correctional Staff cases, with 5 deaths to date.

The active cases see 5 at Haynesville Correctional Centre and 1 at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women.

Please visit their website, here, to read past publications in addition to their paragraph pertaining to vaccinations and screenings, however the transparencies regarding each are a little vague.

Advocate VA seeks to bridge the sizeable gap between legislators, legislative policy and those advocating for positive social change, inmate rights and progressive criminal justice reform in the State of Virginia. We are a non-partisan advocacy grassroots movement, which through collaboration with reputable advocacy groups and the private citizenry, seek to bring attention to the continued and longstanding bias of those currently incarcerated, while proactively assisting their peers and extended families petition for urgent criminal justice reform.

Our prime objective is to advocate for an intensive reevaluation of outdated policies and practices and to actively seek, and help others petition, for advance legislation, seeing to the continued and ongoing reform of Virginia's overtly harsh and punitive criminal justice system.
